Soooo I know it's over, but here's a Valentine's doodle I did for my bf. He always thinks that he's evil and he's really not. He has a Darth Vader lightsaber, Empire shirt and robe, and insists he's on the dark side, but he's actually super nice and adorable and won't even kill a spider... So this sums us up pretty well. :)Speaking of Valentine's Day, this one actually turned out to be one of the best, when I wasn't expecting anything at ALL. But when I got home after my sketch group I walked into the room to THIS BEAUTY hanging over my desk!!! YES!! THIS IS A HOME MADE TANGLED LANTERN courtesy of my super talented and amazing bf!!! :D I literally almost cried :'D A legit surprise is always best :) :) :)

It actually looks like this in the movie, but he added really nice texture, and the purple glow it gives off is realllllyyy pretty!~ He put his little spin on it, which he always does, and it turned out fannnntastic :)

Alright that's it for the Valentine's stuff. Sorry about that. Gag.

It would really suck to be a vegetarian T-Rex... :( I feel for the little guy! Even though I'm not vegetarian myself, this is a shout out to all my veggie friends :D

Tuesday Night Happy Hour Sketch Crew!

A recent development that I haven't posted about is that I started a Tuesday night sketch group called Happy Hour Sketch crew! :) My friend Andy has these sketch jams at the Lee's Sandwich near UCI on Fridays, but I'm usually busy so I decided to make my own, and it's been REALLLYYY fun and successful!!! :) :) :) We've only gone to the Grand Californian in Downtown Disney so far, because it's after work on Tuesday, and it's a nice middle point for people it seems. Also it's cold outside and the Grand is a really cozy hotel that we can stay at till like 1am... :) So it's perfect! Here are some pics from the previous sketchjams...starting on November 29!

These are the only sketches from the sketchjams that I feel like posting, since I've been doing mostly studies lately. :( The 2nd one is actually pretty funny though because we were sitting by the fireplace one night, and this couple that I drew just started MACKING right next to us while we were having a serious conversation! And then we just tried to keep going but we heard their sloppy kissing noises in the background that were super loud... disgusting. Haha I guess the romance of a fireplace just gets to people xD Thankfully they got up and went to their room after they realized we were right there -___- Maaaannnn I hate extreme PDAs...

Vegas December 1-6 (I'm so late...)

So I went to Vegas at the beginning of December, and it was pretty awesome :) We stayed at Planet Hollywood, I bought magic tricks to start learning magic, and we watched the Cirque du Soleil Beatles Love show, which was AMAZING!!! So here are my crappy casino sketches, except for the guy eating a sandwich. That was from Earl of Sandwich..the best sandwich place in Vegas. I ate there like everyday -__- So bad.

Omg I Colored Something!

It's a miracle that I finished this, given the pit of loathing I was in for not having colored anything in years. Boy am I rusty. :\

BUT I USED A CINTIQ FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! :D :D :D Super funnnn!

Too bad I didn't realize the color profile on it was different from the computer though...can't seem to color balance it the way it looked in the cintiq!! How frustrating!!! :(

Back to the Future is like my favorite movie EVER!!! It's one of those movies I can watch over and over...and a movie I DO watch when I'm frustrated/depressed. Yesterday was a nice rainy day and I was having Disney marathons due to...frustration/depression...and when I surprisingly got tired of that I put good ol' BTTF on! Cured my mood! And then I decided to draw it :)

I feel like I want to draw every single frame of this movie! SOOO FUN TO DRAW. Too bad I don't do Marty McFly justice. He's such a dream!!! ;)

I was told this looks like some kinda BTTF anime. HA. That'd be cool. ;)

Aladdin Studies For Class

These are just studies, but since I posted them on the class blog I figured I'd do it here too. I'm realizing more and more how much I suck at drawing guys... I drew Jasmine in like half the time or less than it took for me to draw Aladdin, with like no erasing either. :( Aladdin was a mess to draw.

So now I vowed all my studies will focus on men. Sigh. I love men but I hate drawing them. Time to change that!

Figure Invention for Animation!!!

So I started my Figure Invention for Animation class with my buddy Rad Sechrist, who is an AMAZING teacher as well as a ridiculous artist. REALLY great class. Most of all, I'm finally being forced to draw again and I can start posting new stuff! YAY! :)

Anyway, on the left is a doodle I did during a super long work meeting. Got called out for it by my boss :( Blah.

The girl in the first drawing is supposed to be the same one as the girl on the left...but she doesn't look like it. For the class, Rad is encouraging us to think up poses for our own characters we're working on, so this is the main character of a new project I want to start. Hopefully I can actually MOVE on it this time... all my other projects are really long and time consuming. This is the easiest of them all. You'll probably see a lot of her soon... and also her troupe of weirdos...which will be really fun to design. :)

That guy is Mitch. He's not from the same story as Piper, but I miss drawing him :) Then Macie is down below. Doodle from class. I love my Col-Erase pencils, and how clean the drawings look when I grayscale and mess with levels :D

My Roger's Gardens Halloween Video!!!! :D WATCH IT!

It's always fun to compare concepts to the finished product....so even though these are really quick sketches, I still want to post them for my records. Plus it's fun to compare them to the actual video :)

I think the thief costume was the most accurate....I drew these to prove that I was serious about this project, after I approached my boss saying that I wanted to do something "cinematic" with this year's Halloween display. They were all pretty fast and bad, and they were just the general "looks" I wanted for each character since I pretty much had to hunt for these pieces. Thank goodness for Gasoline Alley, this awesome vintage shop in Costa Mesa. :) It was like a dream come true! SO PERFECT!

The part of the diva and thief actually got switched in casting, so the dress and gloves we were going to use was actually similar to the one I drew, but lacier. We ended up using Emily's actual dress (the red one) because it looked best on her and worked out better in the end, but the dress we found at the vintage shop was really nice too.

Sylvr's black dress was a really lucky find after we visited the shop for a 3rd time....it just happened to be hanging there and I grabbed it because it was almost exactly what I had envisioned. PHEW! :D

Spencer's stuff we just bought a vest from Forever 21 and he already had khaki pants. He ended up not using the bowtie I bought since none of us knew how to tie one, and then after his makeup was on, he looked way better without the hat.

Here is my crappy attempt at a storyboard, an effort which I abandoned after it took me too long and I started to just write it out and do walkthroughs of the sets. That helped me a lot more...since I can't really draw backgrounds and stuff. But I thought it was worth showing at least. :)

This was my first project with an actual full-on process like this, so I feel pretty accomplished. :D

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO!!!! I put a lot of effort into it, and my actors are amazing! Considering the thief is my assistant, the Director ghost is my SEO guy, and the two other girls are on the Merch team and helped set up Halloween. :) The girl in the red dress actually MADE that red dragon you see in the video!!! AMAZING!!!

There's a lot of talent at Roger's Gardens, and I feel SOOO grateful to be a part of it! :) I loved working with these people who I never really got a chance to talk to until recently...and I really got a sense of what Roger's Gardens is capable of.

When people ask me where I work, I say the easiest way to describe it is a Garden nursery....but it's way more than that. Please watch this video to understand. What these people do is very "Disney", and I'm just blown away at how AWESOME they are at it! I wanted to finally show that off in video form, to try and do justice to all the hard work that they do in just 2 weeks. Go check out the website! :)

I've only been Marketing Manager for 4 weeks now, and this will forever be known as my first daunting task as Roger's Gardens Marketing Manager. I did this in 3 weeks, and am very proud of myself for it. :) This is the kinda stuff that happens when you put me in charge...I don't think anyone here was expecting it.

Okay so I am very disappointed with myself because I've been ridiculously busy lately (OMG I GOT PROMOTED AT WORK I'M THE MARKETING MANAGER WTF YAYYY) and so I haven't really had much time to draw... And Sherlock Holmes is VERY difficult for me for some reason. It's probably because I always draw women. Blargh.

Today is my last character design class, so I want to for sure turn in my homework...but I dunno if that's gonna happen. I need an expression sheet and a full body model sheet and BLARGH! IT'S NOT WORKING!

I might just cop out and draw Irene instead... even though I'm going to hate myself for it, more than I do already.

Yeah... I'll just do Sherlock later.

But anyway, these are my concepts for him. I at least tried.

Late Note: Ok. I didn't finish. But here's a picture of my awesome Character Design class!!! :) I learned so much, and think I broke through a slight barrier in my drawing ability thanks to it...at least a little bit. Thank you Shiyoon Kim for an AMAZING class! :D

I have class today and naturally am freaking out because some turnarounds and expressions sheets are due... thank goodness I managed to pull this one out of my ass this morning. Still got a long way to go though before 7:30 tonight. Hopefully I can squeeze some stuff in while I'm at work SIGHHHH.

UPDATE: I MADE IT FOR CLASS (At the very last minute...) :D Added the little girl (just named her Macie) in here too...since this was all one assignment. Macie was more rushed, since I was scribbling her down at like 5:30 after work and I thought I'd be late. Thank goodness I finished :) It was a very heavy critique day, so I'm glad I was able to get my stuff up on time so Shiyoon could provide some great feedback. I really love these characters, so even though the assignment is over I'm gonna keep working with them. These 2 are siblings... and along with their parents, they definitely fit under the assignment title of a "dysfunctional family". I'm really thankful that my character design class really forced me to explore so many different character variations and personalities. All my previous anxiety and frustration trying to come up with something original really paid off in the end, and taught me a lot about what it takes to be a real character designer. I still have a long way to go with these guys, but at least I've got their personalities and looks tied down. Definitely don't want all this work to go to waste. Already got 2 projects in mind :D EXCITED!!!~

Wow it's already 5th week of my Intro to Character Design class... can't believe it! I feel like I've been learning a lot, but I haven't really been applying it well enough, until NOW! YAY! :D I've been really depressed and frustrated lately because everything I've tried doing has been utter crap. With these drawings though I feel like maybe I'm finally coming out of my super long slump. HOPEFULLY! Maybe I just really love this character (because I do!) :) This is still for my dysfunctional family homework. She wants to be a magician.

Today I took a nostalgia trip back to my Winter 2009 Interactivity class...the class I was most scared of ever in college. Now, I'm no programmer, and I'm not proud of much, but I think what I managed to pull outta the air for this class was pretty good. And even if it's not that good, it sure is fun to look back at. :) So I thought I'd share! So I finally feel like my character design class is sinking in a bit. The lecture this week was greatttt :D I really learned a lot from seeing Shiyoon's process and watching his demos. I realized that I care too much about messing up my sketchbooks, so now I don't use them anymore...just loose paper like people have told me to do in the past. I should've done that earlier... I'm way less worried about what my doodles will look like. :) And I draw WAYYY more.

But anyway, after like over 50 pages of crap, I decided I've already reached my goal of drawing everyday. I think I've gotten into a good habit, which makes me super happy! Never thought it was possible! :D But yeah, I'm so not posting everything I draw anymore, like I have before... it would be too much. Instead, these are the best of the worst. :)

I think I'm starting to notice a change, or maybe I'm imagining it. -__-

So I've been supplementing Shiyoon's class with Walt Stanchfield's "Drawn to Life" which is seriously like...a Bible. I just love how there are such great animation books out there :) But really, it's great. And something that I've always read and have been taught about are overlaps and avoiding tangents. I've seen examples but for some reason I've always been afraid to just COPY something... you know? I have the stupidest fears...I guess because I always think that if I try to copy something I'll suck and hate myself forever. Starting to get over that though.

ANYWAY.

So Shiyoon told me to copy frames from animated movies, which finally drove me to actually do it. Originally I was going to just do gesture or something from Beauty and the Beast, but then I was so frustrated with how awful I was drawing Belle that I wanted to spend time and really study her construction.

And wow.

Why haven't I been doing this again?

Just this simple drawing taught me SO MUCH. All those things I've been reading about...it's soooo different to just look at examples than it is to try and draw it EXACTLY and UNDERSTAND how it's working. This will probably be Beauty and the Beast month...hopefully every month I can study a different film. I'll start with one since I'm new at this... :) But yeah. No wonder so many people do this. Hopefully I can do at least one of these a day...then maybe I can do 20. We'll see. ;)

Beach Body Insanity Day 01: Fit Test

So I started Beach Body Insanity up again today... ugh. There are a lot of things I fear in this world, and Beach Body is really high up there. I've tried it 4 times and always fail. If you don't know what it is, check out this video. Informercial timeeee!

No matter how afraid I am of it, I'm always super psyched to start it up because of all those result videos! I know this thing should work! I just need to get through it! BLARGHHH!!! Today I did just the fit test and I felt like such shit after, like I was gonna throw up. D:

And then what usually ends up happening is I just give up and end up eating a cheeseburger and going back to my crap eating habits. But nottttt anymore!

Anyway, I realize that a lot of my posts are really incoherent and badly written because I always tend to do these when I'm super tired. So I'll stop here and probably rewrite all this later. The main point of this post was starting Beach Body Insanity so I can keep up with it, and if I don't post it then I'll feel super guilty.

This Used To Be Me

Today I took my little sister to this festival run by YMCA and her after school coordinators. They had a bunch of performances done by little kids, and the first one I really enjoyed. A bunch of little kids just kinda jumped around and moved their hips to some hula choreography that they weren't really expected to follow, because you know the main purpose of them is just to be cute. :) And that they were! Especially the girl on the super far end who totally did NOT want to be there. It was hilariousss! xD Everyone noticed her too because she was just standing there looking really angry with her arms crossed. She didn't move the whole time except to roll her eyes! SOOO CUTE.

And then I realized why I loved it so much...and it's because I was ALWAYS that girl. When I was a kid I never wanted to participate because I thought everyone was an idiot and I didn't want to be one too. Sometimes I still think that, but I don't really care what people think of me anymore. It's always more fun to participate anyway :) I think now I'm the total opposite, I'm more like that guy on the left xD I remember graduating from high school and going to our IB Dinner Dance thing. My AP US History teacher played us that "I Hope You Dance" song by Lee Ann Womack and told us that no matter where life takes us, she hopes that we dance, and actually do things rather than just sit around...since you know, you only live once. I really live by that now. I'll basically try anything once because nothing lasts forever, no matter how embarassing it is, and also usually when I'm doing embarassing things, people around me don't even know me, and those who are my friends will still like me no matter what I do :)

Anyway. That cute little girl brought me back. I could completely feel her pain.

Lately I've been obsessed with faeries (and yes I spell it that way!), and I know I suck with markers. I've always been terrified of coloring with markers because I hate messing up my drawings, but I ordered some tombows anyway because I figure I should try sometime... This was actually my very first drawing that I attempted to color with marker, so that explains why it looks this way. Even though I don't really know how to use them yet, they're a lot of fun!!! :D I hope I can get better with them soon!~

WOW! I drew a guy! :D I know...I don't draw them often. Women are just too fun to draw :) But guys are cool too. I'm just not as good at them.

This is Sion, Vince's NWN character :) He's an elven sorcerer~ Vince asked me if I got bored drawing my characters just standing normally all the time, and I took that as "YOU SHOULD DRAW MORE DYNAMIC POSES."

That's the goal from now on. I also need to stop being so afraid of hands. There's always a mirror to look at for help! ;)

So today I found out my awesome friend Jon Tilton has already moved to Texas for his dream job as Brian Brushwood's assistant. I got really excited because that means I get to meet him soon!!! :D YAY!~ Anyway. That also reminded me that I never posted the animation I made for his DigitalStudent.me project that I did back in March, and I actually kinda like it. :) So here it is! It was my first time animating anything in Illustrator...or actually using Illustrator seriously, so I think it's a nice accomplishment. Or at least good experience!

Pickle Turnaround (First One Ever!!!)

So this weekend I got to work on some long overdue Gnomescape stuff, which is a BLAST btw! :D I'm having so much fun with this project! Anyway, I got the logo done, which is here in black and white, but I do have a color version too (YAAAYYY!! :D), and I did my first turnaround!!! :D This is Pickle, the main character! It's really great that Jann is entrusting the whole look of this game to me...kind of daunting but, it's really a dream come true. :) I have to pinch myself sometimes to make sure I'm not dreaming.

Everything Is Illuminated!!!

One of my favorite books EVER is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. He wrote Everything is Illuminated before that book, but I never finished reading it and have always wanted to see the movie! I finalllyyy got to watch it last night and wow I loved it so much!! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend!!! I'm a fan of anything related to the Holocaust/WW2, and this is no exception. Beautifully shot, entertaining and heartfelt, and really great casting for the characters :) I wanted to draw the whole movie! But I just doodled these because I wanted to pay attention. ;)

I was going to edit them in photoshop so you didn't see the crap behind it that was from a weekend trip to El Dorado Park, but I was too lazy so I'm just dumping it all here. -_-

Elijah Wood has really big, pretty eyes. Just stating the obvious.

So we stopped playing NWN2 because it sucked...basically...and started up NWN like we had been trying to since like junior year in college? (I feel old saying that btw.. ~_~) Anyway, I changed Sylvi from a favored soul to my favorite class -- Druid! :D So now she's an elven druid, and she has a panther but when I tried to draw it, it sucked so bad so I deleted it in photoshop. Hopefully it'll come back later. I really need animal practice... (Personal Note: Done on May 28)

California Friendly Contest Judging

Last Friday I got to go out with the judges for our California Friendly Garden Contest for work. It was super fun! :D We just went to different gardens all day and my job was to take pictures! All the judges were so nice too. Horticulturists are AMAZING. They can name like any plant you see! It's ridiculous.

Above is Cindy and Dan, the ones I talked to the most. Dan actually saw me drawing him and pointed at it and said "HEY!" Then he took a picture of my drawing. I was super honored. :) Then I messed up the drawing with marker. :( I will get better with it...I swear!

So I'm a huge fan of red hair and freckles. I've always wished that I was born with freckles..but sadly I wasn't. Maybe I can paint them on?

Anyway. Does this make me love gingers? When did gingers get such a bad rep anyways? Was it because of South Park? I think gingers are ADORABLE! And whenever someone says "ginger" I think of Coldstone's awesome gingerbread cookie cake they have at Christmas time. I don't really like gingerbread aside from that but...it still smells nice!!! Do gingers smell like gingerbread? Maybe at Christmas? Hmmm.

...Is it bad that I said ginger a bajillion times? Is that derogatory? I don't mean anything bad by it. :( I just really like them!

Also my boyfriend and I started playing Neverwinter Nights 2. He had this awesome idea to draw our characters every week, or every 4 levels, so we can watch the progression of our character like with their armor and stuff, and also our skills.

My character is Sylvi Aers, a favored soul of Lliira. I suck at NWN though...I need to learn it -__- But the character aspect is really fun :) Can't wait to see where she goes. Anyway, my first quick sketch of her is on the right.

So WAYYYY back in the beginning of April I went to WONDERCON which was awesome! :) I actually have some pictures to post and more to say but that'll take some time so I'll add that later. Sadly I didn't draw as much as I wanted to...mostly because I was too busy eating that yummy San Francisco food. ;) Horrible, I know.

Top one is mainly from Frostbites, this REALLY REALLY good Italian Sorbet place in Cypress. Then some Newport people are mixed in there too. My favorite is the lady in the tiger coat. She was totally a cougar in tiger's clothing ;) Funny because a week or so later I saw a sticker on someone's car that said "I'm a cougar and I love it" or something...Oh Newport.

So this is a compilation of sketches. The ones on the left were from Roger's Gardens when Andy came to hang out at lunch on Tuesday. :) It was nice! Especially because it was sunny! :D Then the guy sleeping in the chair on the right was from today when I waited 2 hours at Honda for my maintenance to get done...he was barking on his cell phone in German for the longest time and then passed out. He looked important with his fancy pants and shoes, so I had to draw him! Then the rest was more Barnes and Noble from today. Seriously. Barnes and Noble has SUCH interesting people!!!

I had errands to run near Mainplace Mall and wanted to wait for the traffic to die down so I thought I'd go to Barnes & Noble to do homework for Kevin's class. I kept getting distracted and drawing people. I think now that I'm getting used to it, I wanna do it all the time! :D So glad I started going to those Saturday sketch sessions!

The lady at the top left sat at my table with her husband. She saw me studying an anatomy book and said "Ohhhh you're studying anatomy! Pre-med?" and I replied with "Nah. Artist." and she was like "....Oh."

I can't help feeling like I disappointed her...and she's not even my mother! xD I thought it was funny.

Analytical Figure Drawing - Week 07

Alright I'm horrible and didn't do week 6, but it's pretty much the same thing anyway so I'm just going to do a ton of drawings like this. Only half though...I still have to do some pelvis studies. :\ Those I'm kind of nervous about. I got all of these poses from Sarah Simblet's "Anatomy for the Artist" which is a freaking AMAZING anatomy book that I bought a couple years ago but never really knew how to use till now. It's SUPER helpful, especially the semi-transparent overlays of bones over pictures of models. :) And the photos are amazzzzzinnggg!

So apparently I'm using this blog now as kind of a picture diary for all these sketch sessions. I go super picture happy because they're soooo fun and I have a really tiny cute camera now :) So I'm just gonna post smaller pictures since there will be a lot... Also I'm behind. This was last week's sketch session. I'll post this week's today too. I really need to start keeping these to date...blargh.

I didn't do too well today. I think I was talking and eating too much (HAHA). Also I realized that drawing with pen really ISSSS so much better. Just for some reason today when I tried the brush pen it didn't work for me...so I just kept going with the pencil and didn't get too great of results. Oh well. Still worth it to post anyway.

Today I met Kendra Melton, a super awesome illustrator. Talking with her too about how she got to LA really inspired me...heck everyone is inspiring! I love hearing about it. :) But yeah, check her stuff out!

Little Sister Outing - Downtown Disney! :D

Alright...I just HAD to post this! HAHA! I wonder if Ana would be upset if she knew... xD

So yesterday I took my lil sis out to Downtown Disney and I had dinner at the Jazz Kitchen Express and got her some beignets...which she had never tried. She loved them! :D Anyway. I let her look through my sketchbook and then she decided to draw me, if I drew her. So that's me on the left! I think it is BEYONNNNDDD adorable, and she did a wonderful job! Even though I have curly hair and am wearing a gown... haha! She said she doesn't know how to draw straight hair so she always draws it curly. :) It's alright. I've had a perm before. But yeah, then I drew her afterwards on the right there. It's no match to hers though! :) Then she wrote her name~

This being a big sister thing is another dream come true for me...I look forward to my lil sister outing and CDA days throughout the whole week! Because these all usually fall toward the end of it.

I noticed that Lisa left a comment on my previous sister related post and I didn't see it till now. I really need to find that stupid setting that emails me notifications when someone comments! ~___~ Anyway, the answer is that...having a little sister is great. And Ana is so much more than I could ever ask for. :) She's not difficult at all, and she's suchhhh a sweet girl! I feel so privileged to know that I'm having some kind of impression on her...and I'm just really grateful that she likes me. :) We have so much fun together, and I can't believe how PERFECT she is for me! LIKE REALLLLLLLYYYY!!!! I'm just so psyched to have an impact on her life! It's crazy!

Now I'm gonna do some advertising, because Big Brothers and Big Sisters really need volunteers. There are tons of kids waiting for Bigs, and not enough Bigs going around...so it's really unfortunate. It's an amazing program, and for such a great cause...I recruited 3 big sisters at work today and it was a super great feeling. :) I hope I can recruit more, because really...it's really worth it to change the world one kid at a time. Whoever is reading this, click here and PLEASE CONSIDER IT!!!! It's only a small commitment (min twice a month, 4 hours, max once a week) and it's totally worth it...and funnnnn too!!! :) So again. Rad Sketch Session in Little Tokyo!

So I have to say...I feel beyond privileged to be able to attend these sketch sessions, held by super beyond amazing Dreamworks storyboard artist Rad Sechrist (on the right in below pic with the glasses). He's done storyboards for Megamind and Kung Fu Panda 2 among a bunch of other things, including being a contributor to the Flight comics, and it's just crazy to be in his presence. :) He also has a super helpful How-To blog if you're interested. ;) But yeah...he just started holding these quick sketch sessions on Saturdays. Thankfully I was able to meet him right as he was starting these, and I got to join them in Little Tokyo last Saturday. :D

That's my TA for Analytical Figure Drawing there on the left, Dan. He's SOOOO crazy talented!!! I can't believe I got to sit in between them. :D :D :D Maybe their talent will rub off on me? :D? Ha.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT TO MEET SO MANY AWESOME ARTISTS!!! :D Christie Tseng is beyond amazing....I'd ben hearing so much about her and finally got to meet her that day! You MUST check out her stuff. Ian Abando is sitting there on the bottom left... he's crazy too! Tuna Bora and Yasemin Baran's are amazing artists as well! SO BEAUTIFUL! AHHH I'm so jealous of their talent!

Haha I'm always so hesitant to follow these people's blogs now... I hope they don't see mine. D:

Ivan Gonzali was nice enough to tell me about Will Weston's class at the Animation Guild, which I plan to definitely take sometime in the near future, next time they have it. :) I honestly don't have time for it right now, as much as I would wanna do it. :( Also I would feel weird just going without paying...sure they keep tabs on their students anyway. :P

DAN IS AMAZING. I AM SO GLAD HE'S MY TA!!!! He's already helped me SOOOOO much!!!! AHHHHH!!!! :D :D :D

These drawings go in order of most recent. So the ink ones above are after Rad told me that it might help to not use a pencil. He uses sharpie. I think that drove me to try using a pen... my problem is my lines aren't confident enough and I'm all sketchy. Gotta stop that! So using the pen really helped. You can see a difference I think, between the top set and the bottom set.

The bottom set is kind of I guess...my introduction to quick sketching? I tried doing it at Panera, and Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Lucille's... just did NOTTTT work! I felt so frustrated and awful...so Little Tokyo definitely helped. :)

I was hesitant to post these...but I think it'll be cool to look back on it one day when I'm awesome and remember how I started. You know? I hope I improve... geez.

I have to say too that I learned so much... I've never EVER been able to quick sketch, because it was always so FRUSTRATING! But they taught me some techniques that definitely help...it's only up from here, right? :) I thought I'd be intimidated by all the talent over there, but it was the opposite -- I was, and am, more inspired than I have ever been in my life.

I'm sooo grateful to all the awesome artists I met, especially because they take the time to answer my questions and help me out! :) Everyone is so nice!

Seriously. I hope no one wakes me up.

So I Just Spammed My Class Blog With These...

I think I've been trying to get used to my new, super busy schedule. The first 2 weeks were alright, and then all this stuff happened and I my posting kind of suffered... not only this blog but my class one too. I felt bad spamming homework from the past 3 weeks just now. ~__~ At least here it's all in one post!!!

So yeah, CDA week 3, 4, and 5 (Week 5 is the top 4...).

Just because I haven't been posting doesn't mean I haven't been drawing. I'm drawing more now than I ever have in my life, and that's the way it should be. Deciding to finally go this path has been my best decision ever. :) It's SOOOO FUN!!! I feel like I'm in a dream! Not even kidding. :)

Gosh I hope I'm at least improving a little bit. I don't want to fool myself into thinking I am...haha.

My Little Sister Ana!!! :D

I'm an only child, and I've ALWAYS ALWAYS wanted a sister. So about 6 months ago I applied to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Orange County to become a mentor, AKA a Big Sister. FINALLLLYYY after what seemed like FOREVERRRRR, I was matched with this super cute little girl named Ana Betina. I met her for the first time on Tuesday, and today we're going on our first outing :D This is a huge thing for me, and I want to make sure I make a good impression on her from the start. I wanted to do something special, so I thought I'd do a drawing for her! (since I found out she also likes to draw :D) I did this quickly at lunch, so the leg is kinda messed up but...I'll do a better one later when I get to know her better. I'm just so happy and I want to show it! My match could've easily been a disaster, but right when I met Ana I had this feeling that she was absolutely perfect for me. I'm sooo excited for what's to come, and I wanted to somehow express that to her :)

I haven't really colored anything in a while so I'm pretty rusty, ESPECIALLY with colored pencils. I just had no time to take it into the computer, and I thought it was important for me to hand her something completely hand drawn. I hope she appreciates it!

Analytical Figure Drawing - Week 01

Oh man. It's been a while since I posted! Looks like I didn't draw a whole buncha friends like I had planned =__= That's bound to happen soon though, since I started my analytical figure drawing class at Concept Design Academy in Pasadena! :D Well I actually missed the first class last Sunday since I was in Vegas, so tomorrow (er...today?) will be my first class!

Still had to do homework though...I realized that I really...REALLYYYYY suck at figure drawing! I am hoping beyond all hope that I will improve as much as I want to improve in my head, because I am really ashamed at what I've produced so far. I was pretty much winging it, because even though the class has an AMAZINGLY helpful blog (http://analyticalfiguresp11.blogspot.com/) I still didn't really know what he wanted for the homework and I just did whatever.

I'm going to post this here because I really want to see where I go from here, because right now I am at the lowest of the low...and I can only move up from here as I learn, right? ~___~

Vince, who has taken figure drawing, was trying to help me through this because I was really frustrated with how stiff and sketchy everything was coming out. My progression can be seen through the series of these sketches. The ones I did today (the bottom 3) look really different from the top ones which I did a couple days ago... thankfully. I think they look more...figure-drawing-ish??? RIGHT?! Maybe.

Mike! And About Drawing Friends...

Here's a pic of my buddy Mike, who jokingly asked me to draw a "Disney version of himself" after he saw what I did for Angela. Now, I find it funny how Angela asked me to turn her into a Disney princess, because I'm not sure my style is that Disney...haha. But people seem to think so. >__> And thennn what ends up happening if someone asks me to do that, is that I try so hard to make it look Disney that the drawing ends up failing. I think that's what happened with this. Even though it was a pretty fast sketch, I still think I could've done better.

Which brings me to my next point -- I need to draw real life people more often. I remember in high school, I would ALWAYS get asked "CAN YOU DRAW ME?!?!" And then I would say "sure..." but I would always HATE the result. Whenever someone asks me to draw them, I get so caught up in trying to make it look like the actual person that again, it fails.

THIS IS A PROBLEM.

So I'm going to fix it.

So many of my drawings look the same, and in order for me to get better, I need to draw a variety of people (obviously) so that's what I'm going to do. If you read this blog regularly and are a close friend of mine...watch out because you'll probably see yourself on here soon.

I have a list of friends I'm planning on drawing this week. And trust me...it's gonna happen. And Mike, I'll probably be redrawing you too. xD Haha~

Abacus: Cliff, Cherry and Aome

This is Cliff, the hero of Abacus and Aome's opposite. His lower half is generally in sweatpants, while his upper half attempts to dress nicely due to family demands. His actual name is Clifford, based off Clifford the Big Red Dog. He's a redhead, and his parents bonded over Clifford when they were younger so they decided it would be perfect for him, and also make a lot of sense. He's really embarassed about it though...being named after a dog.

I also kind of hate scanning on my cheap scanner compared to the one at work. When I scan at work, I can just directly throw it in a post and it looks nice (like the below Aome post). But then when I scan it here, it screws up the natural color of the paper so much that instead of trying to get the color right, I just desaturate it and mess with levels. =( I like the brownish color so much better though. So...that explains the different "paper" colors. I know it probably doesn't bother anyone else, but the lack of consistency bothers me, especially with two pictures that were drawn right next to each other. Sigh. Okee...rant OVER.

I've been drawing way too many girls lately. There was a period where I just drew guys. I feel like I forgot how to draw them. It's so much more of an effort whereas the girls just come out easily. I guess that makes sense though.

A scribble while I was writing some story stuff. My first try at Aome, before the drawing in the below entry, and an idea for another character, Cherry (Cherrie?) She's a childhood friend of Cliff's, and they became close due to the humiliation of being very literally named because of their red hair. I normally don't draw in pen, but I think I should more often. Usually when my stuff is in pen, it's because I was doing something else and somehow ended up scribbling...haha. Pen looks really cool if done right though, so I should really practice.

But now I'm finally getting to the character designs of my characters. Here's the main girl, Aome (Pronounced A-oh-me). She's blind and albino. =) Doesn't look it in this pic though. I'm excited to get some color into her! She buys and wears things based on texture and comfort, and she's got a pretty eccentric personality. She has what seems like an infinite collection of weirdly shaped glasses, which she cycles through and usually has on. For this pic though I wanted to get her eyes in there. She's holding generic heart shaped sunglasses, but she has weirder ones by far. =)

I always have a buncha characters running around in my head, but Aome is my favorite so far. I think she is the character I've created most similar to me personality-wise, because you know, I'm not exactly blind or albino.

Okee so this pic isn't a drawing (obviously) but I am just SOOOOO happy that this finally came!!! I'm so spoiled with Amazon 2 day shipping that when something takes a week to get here I flip out! AHHHH!!! This was like the reward at the end of a really busy workday. I sped home just for this guy. =) He's even better than I could imagine! SO SOFT!!! I've been looking for a super super soft huggable plushie too...and it looks like I finally found him!

It's a plus that it turned out to be Appa <3

Super busy errand filled day. No time for drawing even at lunch =( Then when I got back at like 8ish, I worked out for the first time in a while. Felt like I would die. Then I made these Scooby Snack protein bars. They really look like pieces of shit...but they are pretty tasty!~ =) They took a while to make though because you have to roll them in flax. I'm exhausted. From rolling the flax mostly...you know.

I never really used to do fanart, even in my otaku days. So what has Avatar done to me? Ugh I DUNNO!!! It's like that phenomenon of wanting to strangle a cute animal just because they are SOOO CUTE! It's like this! I love the characters sooo much that I need to DO something about it! Too bad I'm in artist's block. =(

Sokka and Toph are my super favorite characters and I've been wanting to draw them for a couple days now. I just had a really busy weekend, yet I somehow managed to fit finishing the series into by staying up really late (something I haven't done for a whileee!) xD Now I'm Avatar obsessed, and I'm not afraid to say it. Even though I'm a couple years late. Haha.

Anyway, so now that I actually sat down to draw them, nothing came out right. I owe them a badass picture in the future, but for now I'll just post this.

Sokka is my type of guy. Really. With the sarcasm, wit, intelligence, creativity and cheesy jokes...basically sums up my current boyfriend. HAHA! I'm sure he doesn't mind being compared to Sokka though. =) He's even tan, asian, and exotic looking. No wonder Sokka gets all the girls.

How To Train Your Dragon

I'm SUPER happy I got it for my birthday!~ =D Today I started watching the extras, and one of them teaches you how to draw Toothless! Sidenote: I went to LA for a really nice dinner today with a bunch of UCLA friends. School seems so long and tedious when you're in it, but looking back...it's actually such a short fleeting moment. It was weird seeing all of us together in one place like old times. Nostalgia trip! I miss it. With how life is now, I really took those days for granted when I had them always around me. =( I miss school days, despite how much I hated them.

Yay It's My Birthday! =D

I am a year older today! Woohoo! =) Birthdays are always bittersweet, you know? I don't really act like it, but I LOVE them. I've loved them since I was a kid. Nowadays though, whenever my birthday comes around I act like a depressed mess. (Not really, but I kind of lay low on the "acting excited" part xD) I was really sad on my last teen year, and ever since I was 20 it's never really been the same. It's stupid, but I feel like now that I'm not longer in my teen years I have to act like an adult and not really care about my birthday. So that's what I've been doing.

What I really, REALLY miss though are my awesome birthday parties as a kid. When I would go to like...Chuckie Cheese and have a table in front of those creepy mechanical figures and they sang happy birthday to me and the mascots came out and we took picssss and all my friends were thereee and there were all these balloons and cake and streamers and signs and -- yeah. Those were the days. The last birthday that was like that I think was my 20th bday when my friend Toki threw a scavenger hunt for me. That was AWESOME. And so fun! I love love LOVED that and it's something I will never forget. =) Other than that though... blah. I'm the kind of person who LOVES it when I go to a restaurant and someone says it's my birthday. Even though I act embarrassed. It is just an act. Really. xD

Even though nothing ever really happens on my birthday anymore though, I still love them. I think that's something facebook is good for. I don't really like facebook, but I admit, broadcasting your birthday to all your friends can really make you feel special. Last night right at 12am my phone kept going off with people sending me messages and texts and stuff like that. It was really, really nice. Before I went to sleep it was cool to see that thing on my phone that said "37 new comments..."

Another thing I will admit -- I am a comment whore. I don't act like it, but getting a comment or a text is like Christmas to me. Or my birthday. Or just opening a present. I get this warm fuzzy feeling. =D So now my comment count is at 66 and I feel super super happy. Thank you facebook for slapping my birthday in everyone's face so they go comment on my page! =D Haha.

Does that sound pathetic? I don't care. Being at work on your birthday sucks, so having my iPhone go off all day with birthday greetings is really all I look forward to. I remember having your birthday at school was cool, because your friends would like write notes to you and stick a post-it on you or something saying like "HUG ME IT'S MY BIRTHDAY" or whatever. But being at work on this day, especially MY work...really sucks. I don't work in some huge office where it's lively and there's a buncha people. There are only like 5 people in my office...so it's quiet.

I came in this morning and was like "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!" and my boss was like "What are you, like 19?" Sigh.

Another thing too, I was like almost an hour late. I WANTED SLEEP! But I woke up at like 7:35...and I usually leave at 7 (and even then I worry that I'll get here late). And then I realized I really HAVE NO CLOTHES TO WEAR for work! SOOOOO in my rushing I threw on these pants with a broken zipper! I already KNEW the zipper was broken, but I honestly had no more options for clothes. So whenever I get up, or even when I'm just sitting at my desk, I have to constantly pull my shirt over my bulging piece of fat coming out of my pants D:!!! SIIIIGHHH. HORRIBLE! I FEEL SO FAT!!! GAHHHHRRR!!!

So yeah. As I sit here, bummed about being at work on my birthday, all I want is to rush out and go to Disneyland. But I know that won't happen, so I just stare at my phone and smile when I hear a new vibration. In between those moments of consolation, I wonder how my life ended up this way, and dream for something better.

Sigh.

I am BEYOND excited for my analytical figure drawing classes at CDA next month.

Thank you to all my friends and family who support me...visit this blog...and are kind enough to send me a little message on my birthday. Or even to talk to me at all. I really appreciate it, more than you can imagine. =)

Dang that was a long entry. O___O I wonder if anyone is gonna read this... haha. Oh well. At least it made me feel better. =)

I was gonna draw more stuff today, but I ended up watching 7 episodes of Avatar The Last Airbender. Only 6 more to go till book 3! If I didn't have work it would go faster... =(

But yeah. This is really all I could do because I gotta sleep! I love Appa! And, assuming that most people who read this have already seen Avatar (since apparently I'm like the only person who's never watched it...) I was devastated when he got captured. ;__; Man...that series is really getting good right about now. I also really wanted to draw Toph, cuz she is damn awesome. But maybe tomorrow. I only have 10 more mins of being 21, and I'm planning on spending them in a nice warm shower! Because yeah... I got work tomorrow and wanna wake up as late as possible. Happy birthday to me.

Super Quick Work Sketch

I've been writing a comic about life...much like Johnny Wander, because a lot of really stupid things happen to me. I think it's about time to actually start it. Make it like...you know. A diary. =D I was checking up on my old webcomic yesterday and can't believe I was able to do that when I was like 12 or whatever (exaggeration). So I'm sure I can do better now! Also, the Princess and the Pea rendition I'm planning I want to eventually make into a webcomic too, but that one is gonna be toughhhh. I need some practice first! So I think right now I'm going to try and start figuring out who my most frequent characters are and what they look like in comic book form. So watch out! You might see yourself on here soon! xD Bwahaha!

Anyway. This is a quick sketch of comic me! I wish I looked like this in real life... haha. I do dress like this though! It's what I'm currently wearing =) Something you should know about me...I hate wearing pants. =\ Unless they're pajama pants! Otherwise I try to get away with a dress or big shirt + leggings whenever I can.
